Sports Center and Urban Spa. Supera El Vasco

Designed as a space for health and sports services in the heart of Oviedo, this project is integrated into one of Santiago Calatrava’s buildings in the Principality of Asturias, Spain. The El Vasco commercial complex is strategically located in the city center, featuring shopping areas, dining spots, and several buildings with residences, apartments, and a hotel.

The El Vasco Sports Center is located in one of the complex’s most prominent spaces. The client’s requirements included a spacious lobby, activity rooms, a fitness area, locker rooms, an urban SPA with treatment zones, and parking for 180 vehicles.

Due to the building’s initial structural complexity, significant modifications were made to the existing reinforced concrete structure, including creating the main lobby and adding elevators connecting to the underground parking.

Large windows bring abundant natural light into the center and provide access to three surrounding streets, creating an architectural piece that integrates well with its urban environment.

The design emphasizes visual connection and spatial simplicity, with a double-height lobby offering views of the upper floor, which is accessible by escalators and elevators. The ground floor hosts two activity rooms, while the upper level features the fitness area, locker rooms, SPA, and a physiotherapy zone.

The project prioritizes coherence with the main building and the surrounding area, incorporating high-efficiency technologies and sustainable materials for a responsible use of space. The result is an architectural work that integrates with its surroundings, enhancing and organizing the urban landscape.
